I think it wasn't working because I was operating on a link through Hotmail. It seems to be fine, now though...

I had a similar problem once. It turned out I had my protections set too high, so my computer was not accepting any cookies from this site. Since the site uses these cookies to keep track of who people are, this meant it couldn't identify me. I solved the problem by specifically excepting this site from my normal high-security settings. (I refuse to let my guard down in general!) Probably something about your set up when linking through Hotmail was also rejecting the cookies.

I have Mozilla set up to prompt me for each cookie. Sites like this one I just click "accept all cookies" and I never see that prompt again. Everything just works
