And it keeps me occupied at work since I don't really have a job -- your tax dollars at work! The thing I like about being a government "worker" is I get paid no matter how many hours (0) I am productive.

Right now the U.S. government is paying 100% of my college tuition. The way I see it is the government is earning my tax dollars

| Well, except for the part about living in the desert for three (or more) months. I'd complain about that, but then again, the desert isn't my idea of a fun place. I'm a city boy.

well, lol, yeah i guess i can complain about that! it's so boring over here! we're not allowed off base and on base there's nothing to do! i feel like i'm in an old folks home, they tell us when to eat, what to wear, and when it's time for bingo, our only means of entertainment.

I have a friend in the hospital right now, he feels the same way. He has a brain infection, luckily, not cancer. At first they thought it was but he got lucky. One of the infectious parts was near the piece of the brain that makes spinal fluid, and if they hadn't done surgery to fix it, he might be dead now. Since he is active duty, the taxpayers are paying his medical bills. I saw the bill for when my son was born and I am not going to complain about not having to pay it I am sure he feels the same way about this trip to the hospital. This conversation hits close to home because lately I've been weighing the decision to reenlist, commission, or separate. While I hate the military on a day to day basis, there are certain things I like -- especially the medical benefits, but certainly not the pay (or lack thereof). Oh, my wife loves living in base housing. She calls it her "free government house," although the thing was obviously built with inferior materials. Our cat licks the drywall and gets higher than with catnip. Something is wrong with that.

If I lived like it were heaven on earth, I would have a bottomless keg feeding me beer and an endless supply of beef jerky. Sigh. I miss heaven already.
