GIS Class Projects:
- Toxic Emergency Response: In a toxic emergency, chemists from the Toxic Division of the City of Berkeley and firemen would need to know where and what toxic materials exist inside the emergency site. Currently, this toxic information is in non-digital form. This project used a GIS and Avenue to present to the client a user-friendly model that not only shows the geographical location of each toxic site in Berkeley and their respective information, but also the impact on the nearby environment in terms of human risk.
- Claremont Canyon Dynamic Management Plan: Claremont Canyon remains largely undeveloped and has not had a large fire in a relatively long period of time. By looking at the past to present using aerial photos, FARSITE, and GIS, we can assess fire risk in the canyon and use these results to better manage the vegetation and prevent a firestorm from happening.
