Mechanical Engineer

September 2003 - Present

Applied Materials, Inc., Santa Clara and Sunnyvale, CA:

á     Designed and implemented hardware on plasma nitridation and oxidation chamber:

o   Heated 450¡C ceramic ESC with backside gas metal seals, quartz plasma shielding and retaining ring, titanium clamping and support rings.

o  Cost reduction hardware, including wafer pedestal base, RF source tilt rings and enclosure, lid clamps, and gas panel.

o  Ceramic mushroom heater, including water-cooled mounting base, wafer lift, and quartz plasma shields.

o  Heated gas distribution for BTBAS process on LPCVD chamber, including lines, valves, and heater jackets.

o  Selectively anodized showerhead for improved heat transfer for BTBAS process on LPCVD chamber.

o  N2 heater purge gas delivery for cost reduction and software compatibility on LPCVD systems.

á     Wrote retrofit procedures for N2 heater purge and H2 bottom pur­ge distribution and control systems on LPCVD chambers.

á     Verified clearances and tolerances in pumping plate design for wafer transfer in LPCVD chambers

á     Implemented lid chiller from new supplier on LPCVD chamber.

á     Test CMP polishing head membranes and design polishing head retaining ring for enhanced slurry distribution.

á     Designed and tested backside gas pressure controller for PVD electrostatic chuck.

á     Led New College Graduate Marketing Committee in collecting and presenting information about the semiconductor equipment market.

á     Tuned and characterized NSK and Mitsubishi servo motors in position, velocity, and torque control modes for two models of vacuum robots, using PC motion control cards.

á     Chaired biweekly meetings to optimize current motion control lab experiments.

á     Wrote MATLAB image processing code for machine vision based auto-calibration product (AutoCAL).

o  Programs to calculate robot kinematics and perform image processing, both with graphical user interfaces (GUI)

á     Designed and conducted optical, image processing, and signal communication experiments with AutoCAL device.

o  Operated wafer fab mainframes in order to navigate digital camera to various process chambers.

á     Demonstrated AutoCAL product prototype at Engineering and Technology Conference.

o  Designed setup and software for exhibition for quick explanation of robot calibration procedure to customers.

á     Communicated companyÕs needs and goals to vendors and contractors and collaborated in experimentation and design.
